4 years agoLos Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) is not ready to return from the injured list this week and will require a rehab assignment before he can be activated, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. Fletcher reports that Rendon is healing slowly from a left hamstring strain that has kept him out of action since the beginning of July. Rendon has been plagued with injuries this season that have kept him from producing much at the plate when he's on the field, as he's slashing .240/.329/.382 with six home runs, 34 RBI and 24 runs scored over 58 games. Hopefully he can turn things around once he comes off the injured list, but in the meantime, Jack Mayfield will continue to see the bulk of the playing time at the hot corner.--Michael

1 month agoThe Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher reports that Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hip) is having hip surgery. General manager Perry Minasian said it's a "long-term" thing. Rendon has played in fewer than 60 games in five straight seasons with the Angels, and this year looks like more of the same. The 34-year-old veteran was already expected to start the year in a bench role in 2025, but now he'll be on the injured list, a common destination for him since he's been in Anaheim. With Rendon likely out for the long term, former White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada has an even better shot to open the year as the team's primary third baseman, although Luis Rengifo could also see time at the hot corner. When Rendon did play last year, he hit just .218/.307/.267 with 14 RBI and six steals in 238 plate appearances. He should be avoided in all fantasy formats in 2025.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 month agoAccording to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon is expected to open camp as the team's No. 2 third baseman. Earlier this week, the Angles signed third baseman Yoan Moncada to a one-year deal, and he is expected to open spring training as the team's top option. Rendon has battled numerous injuries over the past four seasons. During this stretch, Rendon has never appeared in 60 or more games. Last summer, Rendon appeared in just 57 contests and held a poor .218/.307/.267 slash line. He hit 10 doubles and did not tally a long ball. However, he did show a solid eye at the plate, holding a 9.7 percent walk rate and a 14.7 percent strikeout rate. Fantasy managers should monitor his status during spring training but should not target him in any formats, as he will likely face an uphill battle to earn playing time in 2025.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

4 months agoAfter another disappointing and injury-riddled 2024 campaign for Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon, he will need to prove himself in order to earn playing time next season. "He's gonna have to come in and show us he can still play and earn the right to play every day," general manager Perry Minasian said when asked what type of conversations the team has had with Rendon. Given the Halos' lack of other options at the position, it's likely that Rendon will see plenty of playing time if he's healthy. However, it's far from a guarantee that the 34-year-old veteran will be able to stay on the field. He played in only 57 games in 2024 and hit .218 (45-for-206) with no homers, 14 RBI and six steals in 238 plate appearances while going on the injured list three separate times. Unbelievably, Rendon still has two years left on his $245 million, seven-year deal.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

6 months agoLos Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon has been on the 10-day IL since September 10 with an oblique strain, and although it has not been made official, manager Ron Washington seemed to indicate that the former All-Star would likely not play again this season. With the Angels long out of contention and with just a handful of games to go in the season, it wouldn't make sense to roll the veteran out there in what has turned out to be yet another season marred by injury. The 34-year-old played in just 57 games in 2024, the fourth consecutive season in which he did not surpass even 60 games played. Rendon finishes with a .218-0-14-21-6 line in 238 plate appearances.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller
