Anthony Bender Plays Catch Tuesday
2 years agoMiami Marlins relief pitcher Anthony Bender (back) played catch from 60 feet on Tuesday in Jupiter, Fla. He underwent an MRI exam on May 26 that revealed no further damage. Bender last pitched in a major league game on May 18, but he's getting closer to returning to game action. The 27-year-old right-hander is making slow progress, and unless something changes, he's unlikely to return to the Marlins bullpen before the All-Star break. Before landing on the injured list, he was posting a 4.50 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, six saves, 13 strikeouts and five walks in 14 relief innings. Bender has nine saves for the Fish in the last two seasons.
