4 years agoThe New York Islanders defeated the Florida Panthers by a score of 2-1 in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Qualifiers on Saturday. The Islanders got on the board midway through the opening period as center Jean-Gabriel Pageau found the back of net to open the scoring, while left-winger Anthony Beauvillier's power-play goal early on in the second period ended up being the game-winning goal. The Panthers lone goal came from left winger Jonathan Huberdeau just 23 seconds into the third period, while center Aleksander Barkov recorded an assist on the goal. Goaltenders Semyon Varlamov and Sergei Bobrovsky looked sharp in the contest, as the 32-year-old Islanders netminder stopped 27-of-28 shots on goal in the victory. Panthers netminder Sergei Bobrovsky kept the Panthers in the game with multiple stops in key moments while finishing the contest with 26 saves. Game 2 is set for Tuesday, as the Panthers look to even the series at one game apiece while the Islanders have a chance to push the Panthers to the brink of elimination in their best-of-five Qualifying Round series.--Denis Vondrus - RotoBaller
