Another Strong Showing for Pavel Francouz in Colorado Win
5 years agoColorado Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz allowed only a single goal on 38 shots against New Jersey, earning him his ninth win of the season. Francouz has taken over the starter's role while Phillip Grubauer is sidelined with an injury, and has run with it, winning three of his four appearances and stopping 113 of 120 shots. Already off to a strong start with a .932 save percentage across 14 games, a solid argument can be made that Francouz has outplayed Grubauer (.914 save percentage) this season. Grubauer has returned to practice, but Colorado is still carrying three goalies on their roster, implying that his return is not imminent. If Francouz can continue to shine with a heavy workload, you have to question how much of the crease will be left for Grubauer when he returns. In the short term, Francouz should be rostered in most leagues, with one eye kept on his usage when Grubauer returns.
