Angels to Implement Six-Man Rotation in 2018
7 years agoThe Los Angeles Angels are likely to implement a six-man rotation in 2018. "I think that's probably the route we will go, but we're going to wait until we get to Spring Training, and then we can make some decisions there," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "I think it makes a lot of sense right now, and it's something we're looking at very closely." This decision is primarily centered around keeping superstar signee Shohei Ohtani's arm healthy. The 23-year-old has never thrown more than 160 2/3 innings in a season. A six-man rotation would give him more rest, and allow him to serve as the team's designated hitter more often. While this is good for Ohtani's value, it hurts the fantasy value of LA's other starters. Garrett Richards, Matt Shoemaker, Tyler Skaggs, Andrew Heaney and JC Ramirez will likely act as the rest of the rotation. They each take a small hit in value with this decision.
