Andrew Chafin Strikes Out Side, Earns Save Monday
Andrew Chafin picked up his second save of the season in Monday's 3-0 win over the Brewers. Chafin entered to pitch the ninth inning up by three and delivered a 1-2-3 inning with three strikeouts. The veteran has converted both of his save opportunities and has yet to allow a run with two walks and seven strikeouts in 4 1/3 IP. Teammate Scott McGough has also seen two save opportunities, although he has not pitched well overall and pitched the eighth inning in this one. Chafin has been the best late-inning option for the Diamondbacks so far and is rostered in just 30 percent of leagues, so he is worth a look in deeper roto leagues.

Andrew Chafin Not Guaranteed A Roster Spot
Andrew Chafin is not guaranteed a place in the team's bullpen. Earlier this week, Chafin signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers to return to the Motor City for his third stint. However, manager A.J. Hinch said that he will be a part of the "open competition." Last season, Chafin split time with the Tigers and Texas Rangers. With the Tigers, he held a 3.16 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP across 37 innings of work. With Texas, he held a higher 4.19 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP across 19 1/3 innings. Chafin generated an elite 35.1 percent chase rate and a 34.5 percent whiff rate, which placed him in the 95th percentile among qualified pitchers. The southpaw also generates strikeouts at a strong 28.5 percent rate with a solid 34.0 percent hard-hit rate. If Chafin were to perform well in camp, he would likely earn a middle-relief role.

Andrew Chafin Returns To Detroit
Andrew Chafin to a minor-league deal on Monday that includes a non-roster invite to major-league spring training. Chafin began last year with the Tigers but also spent time with the Texas Rangers. The 34-year-old veteran southpaw reliever had a combined 4-3 record, 3.51 ERA (3.54 FIP), a 1.47 WHIP, one save, a career-high 70 strikeouts and 31 walks in 56 1/3 innings out of the bullpen. He was better with Detroit, sporting a 3.16 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 50 strikeouts and 16 walks in 37 relief innings. If Chafin makes the big-league bullpen, he'll provide additional left-handed relief depth alongside Tyler Holton and Sean Guenther. The best thing Chafin has boing for him is experience, having pitched in 11 major-league seasons while compiling 20 saves, a 3.42 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 25.9% strikeout rate in 508 1/3 total innings.

Andrew Chafin Drawing Interest From Yankees
Andrew Chafin is reportedly drawing interest from the New York Yankees. The 34-year-old became a free agent this winter after the Texas Rangers declined his $6.5 million option for the 2025 campaign. Last season, Chafin posted a 3.51 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 70/31 K/BB ratio across 62 appearances with the Detroit Tigers and Rangers. The veteran southpaw has been a capable and trustworthy option for years now. The Yankees desperately need a reliable left-handed reliever, so the addition of Chafin would make sense for this roster. This bullpen already features Devin Williams, Luke Weaver, and Mark Leiter Jr., so Chafin's chances of getting regular saves is unlikely in the Bronx. That being said, Chafin wouldn't have ideal fantasy value there, but is a good fit for the team.

Rangers Decline 2025 Option On Andrew Chafin
Andrew Chafin. The 34-year-old opened the 2024 campaign in Detroit but was eventually shipped to Texas before the trade deadline. Across 56 1/3 innings of work, Chafin held a 3.51 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and a 31:70 BB:K ratio. The southpaw generated whiffs at an elite 34.5% mark, which was evident in his excellent 28.5% K rate. However, he struggled to control his pitches as he carried a hefty 12.6% walk rate. Given his ability to generate swings and misses, fantasy managers should expect Chafin to have a high-leverage role in 2025. He could eventually become a target in leagues that score holds if he is pitching on a competing club.
