4 years agoKansas City Royals outfielder Andrew Benintendi isn't in the starting lineup for the final game of the team's series against the Chicago White Sox. Hunter Dozier has moved from third base to left field in place of Benintendi, with Hanser Alberto stepping in at third base against White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodon. Dozier is hitting fifth while Alberto is batting seventh. Considering Dozier starts most days for Kansas City, this is essentially Alberto replacing Benintendi in the lineup. The infielder is batting .262 with a .282 on-base percentage, a home run, and a stolen base in 173 plate appearances this season. If you need streaming help on Thursday, you're probably better off looking elsewhere.--Ben Rosener - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoChicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi (hand) was able to take live batting practice on Monday. Benintendi is reportedly feeling good and things are progressing quicker than expected. The left-handed slugger suffered a non-displaced fracture on his right hand in late February. At the time, Benintendi was expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks of action. Now, Benintendi is pushing to be ready in time for Opening Day against the Los Angeles Angels. The organization is hopeful that Benintendi can get into the lineup as the designated hitter at some point this week.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoChicago White Sox manager Will Venable notes that outfielder Andrew Benintendi (hand) "felt really good" while taking swings in the batting cage on Thursday. Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reported the news. "We feel confident that he's in a good spot to progress," said Venable. The veteran broke a bone in his hand at the end of February after being hit by a pitch and was initially given a four- to six-week timetable for his return. It appears he's currently on schedule, and though Van Schouwen notes his being ready on Opening Day seems slightly out of reach, Venable did not rule it out. Benintendi underperformed in 2024 with a .229 average, marking a career-low. Even if he bounces back, he isn't as appealing as a bat in terms of fantasy.--Alex Ciulla

4 weeks agoChicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi (hand) wants to push his rehab timeline and try to be ready for Opening Day in late March. The fracture that Benintendi suffered in his right hand in Thursday's Cactus League game is just below his pinkie finger, and he can already form a fist with his hand. He's been through a hamate fracture before and thinks this fracture is less of a hindrance to his swing. The White Sox gave the 30-year-old veteran outfielder a four- to six-week timetable for a recovery, which means he could be ready right around Opening Day, depending on how his rehab goes. However, the White Sox aren't going to rush him by any means. If Benintendi begins the year on the injured list, Austin Slater would probably be the team's starting left fielder. Benintendi hit 20 homers for the second time in his career in 2024, but he has virtually zero fantasy upside anywhere else and doesn't contribute anything on defense.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 month agoUpdating a previous report, the Chicago White Sox announced on Thursday that outfielder Andrew Benintendi (hand) will miss four to six weeks after suffering a non-displaced fracture of his right hand when he was hit by a pitch in Thursday's Cactus League game against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians. It means that the 30-year-old will most likely start the 2025 regular season on the injured list, making him even more unattractive in deep-mixed and AL-only leagues. Benintendi matched his career-high with 20 home runs in 2024 in his second year in Chicago, but he did very little else offensively, and on top of it, he was one of the worst defensive outfielders in baseball. The upside is pretty non-existent here for fantasy purposes. With Benintendi most likely to start the year on the IL, Austin Slater should be the beneficiary for playing time in left field early on.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
