Andrelton Simmons Opting Out Of 2020 Season
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons has opted out of the remainder of the 2020 season due to concerns about COVID-19. The Angels are all but eliminated from the postseason and only have five games left on their schedule, so this is not a massive ordeal. Simmons is a pending free agent who slashed .297/.346/.356 with a .702 OPS across 118 at-bats in 2020. He is a defense-first infielder with above-average contact skills, but injuries tend to befall him whenever he gets on a hot streak. David Fletcher and Luis Rengifo will likely split duties at shortstop in Simmons' absence.
