Amos Willingham Promoted To The Major Leagues
4 months agoWashington Nationals relief pitcher Amos Willingham is being promoted to the major league roster. Willingham will claim the empty roster spot that was held by right-hander pitcher Hunter Harvey, who was traded to the Kansas City Royals on Saturday, July 13. Willingham made his major league debut last season and struggled with a 6.66 ERA, 1.81 WHIP, and a 9:15 BB:K ratio across 24 innings. At Triple-A Rochester this season, the Georgia Tech product posted a 4.54 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and an 18:42 BB:K ratio across 39 ⅔ innings. However, across his past five appearances (six innings), the right-hander did not allow a run and held a 1.00 WHIP with a 4:8 BB:K ratio. Willingham will likely operate in a low-leverage role for the remainder of the season, while Dylan Floro and Robert Garcia are more likely to claim Harvey's former set-up role.
