Amir Garrett Signs Minor-League Deal With Guardians
1 year agoThe Cleveland Guardians signed free-agent left-hander Amir Garrett to a minor-league deal on Monday. The Kansas City Royals cut Garrett earlier this month after he allowed 11 runs (nine earned) on 22 hits while walking 20 and striking out 28 in 24 1/3 innings over 27 relief appearances for them. The 31-year-old southpaw will likely begin with Triple-A Columbus, but it remains to be seen if he'll get another shot in the big leagues in 2023 in Cleveland. Garrett spent his first five big-league seasons with the Cincinnati Reds before pitching for the Royals the last two seasons. He has a 4.95 ERA (4.92 FIP), 1.44 WHIP, eight saves and a 26.4 percent strikeout rate in 325 1/3 career innings in the majors.
