Alexander Wennberg Dishes Two Helpers In Victory
1 month agoSan Jose Sharks center Alexander Wennberg tallied two helpers during their shootout victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday evening. The Sharks were down two goals in the third period but Wennberg was able to spark a comeback. In the final frame, Wennberg tallied two primary helpers, one on Jack Thompson's goal and the other on Tyler Toffoli's goal, which served as the game-tying goal. The Sharks would then complete the comeback by winning in the shootout. This outing extended Wennberg's point streak to three games. Over this stretch, he has tallied five helpers and has not found the back of the net. Through 57 total games, the 30-year-old has scored eight goals and added 20 helpers. He remains a viable option in deeper formats while he continues this productive stretch.

Alexander Wennberg Returns In Second-Line Role
2 months agoSan Jose Sharks center Alexander Wennberg (upper body) will return from a four-game absence on Sunday against the Calgary Flames. The Sharks plan to use him alongside Fabian Zetterlund and Will Smith on the second line. Wennberg has averaged slightly below 0.5 points per game this season, boasting eight goals and 15 assists in 52 games. He has seen a lot of action as the third-line center, and a move up in the lineup may improve Wennberg's productivity on the offensive end. The Swedish forward is also expected to join the second power-play unit. On Sunday, Nico Sturm (lower body) will be another addition to the Sharks' attacking unit. He will skate on the third line after missing the previous eight games.

Alexander Wennberg Ruled Out For Third Straight Game
2 months agoSan Jose Sharks center Alexander Wennberg (upper body) will miss a third straight game on Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks. According to Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News, it's unclear if Wennberg will be ready to return on Saturday against the Dallas Stars, which means he could be sidelined for the entire week. Saturday will mark San Jose's final game before the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament break. With Wennberg unavailable, Andrew Poturalski saw top-six action on Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens. However, the 31-year-old is not an attractive fantasy option, as Poturalski has tallied only two points in seven career games. He went scoreless on Tuesday with two shots on goal and a minus-one rating across 13:36 of action.

Alexander Wennberg Out On Thursday
3 months agoSan Jose Sharks center Alexander Wennberg (upper body) will not be available for Thursday's matchup against the Seattle Kraken. He has sustained an upper-body injury, making Wennberg miss only his second game of the season. The Swedish centerman has performed reasonably well in a middle-six role, producing eight goals and 23 points in 52 games. Carl Grundstrom will replace Wennberg in the lineup, with Luke Kunin taking over his job as the third-line center. Grundstrom has gone scoreless 16 times in his past 17 appearances. He has notched five points (one goal, four assists) in 34 outings this season. Wennberg is considered day-to-day, so the Sharks should get him back relatively soon.

Alexander Wennberg Expected To Return To Action On Tuesday
3 months agoSan Jose Sharks center Alexander Wennberg (illness) is expected to be back in the lineup on Tuesday against Detroit. Wennberg missed Saturday's matchup against Minnesota due to an illness, but Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said on Monday that Wennberg will travel to the game and should play in Tuesday's contest. Wennberg has slightly increased his productivity compared to last season, but he will likely still not break the 40-point barrier, which he has done twice in his career. Through 44 outings, the Swedish veteran has notched eight goals and 20 points. He usually works as the third-line center for San Jose.
