The Sharks plan to use him alongside Fabian Zetterlund and Will Smith on the second line. Wennberg has averaged slightly below 0.5 points per game this season, boasting eight goals and 15 assists in 52 games. He has seen a lot of action as the third-line center, and a move up in the lineup may improve Wennberg's productivity on the offensive end. The Swedish forward is also expected to join the second power-play unit. On Sunday, Nico Sturm (lower body) will be another addition to the Sharks' attacking unit. He will skate on the third line after missing the previous eight games.

According to Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News, it's unclear if Wennberg will be ready to return on Saturday against the Dallas Stars, which means he could be sidelined for the entire week. Saturday will mark San Jose's final game before the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament break. With Wennberg unavailable, Andrew Poturalski saw top-six action on Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens. However, the 31-year-old is not an attractive fantasy option, as Poturalski has tallied only two points in seven career games. He went scoreless on Tuesday with two shots on goal and a minus-one rating across 13:36 of action.

He has sustained an upper-body injury, making Wennberg miss only his second game of the season. The Swedish centerman has performed reasonably well in a middle-six role, producing eight goals and 23 points in 52 games. Carl Grundstrom will replace Wennberg in the lineup, with Luke Kunin taking over his job as the third-line center. Grundstrom has gone scoreless 16 times in his past 17 appearances. He has notched five points (one goal, four assists) in 34 outings this season. Wennberg is considered day-to-day, so the Sharks should get him back relatively soon.

Wennberg missed Saturday's matchup against Minnesota due to an illness, but Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said on Monday that Wennberg will travel to the game and should play in Tuesday's contest. Wennberg has slightly increased his productivity compared to last season, but he will likely still not break the 40-point barrier, which he has done twice in his career. Through 44 outings, the Swedish veteran has notched eight goals and 20 points. He usually works as the third-line center for San Jose.
