Alex Wood Shut Down After Suffering Setback
5 months agoOakland Athletics left-hander Alex Wood (shoulder) increased his throwing distance up to 90 feet during the week of June 3, but he experienced a setback and is currently shut down from throwing with no timetable to resume that program at this time. Wood was transferred to the 60-day injured list on June 9 and will not be able to make it back to the big leagues before the All-Star break in mid-July now. The 33-year-old veteran southpaw was initially placed on the 15-day injured list on May 13 with left rotator-cuff tendonitis. Wood hasn't been much of a fantasy option for a while, and that hasn't changed in 2024 in his first year in Oakland. Before being put on the IL, he had gone 1-3 with a 5.26 ERA and 1.78 WHIP with 33 strikeouts and 19 walks in 39 1/3 innings. Fantasy managers in mixed leagues can continue to ignore Wood for now.
