Alex Verdugo Getting Rare Breather Tuesday
1 year agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo is getting a rare day off Tuesday when the club opens up a series with the visiting Cincinnati Reds. Technically, it's his second day off in a row, as the Red Sox were idle on Monday. Verdugo has been a constant atop the Red Sox lineup and in right field this season, as he has appeared in 51 of the team's 53 games on the season, while his 223 plate appearances lead all Red Sox hitters. Not only has the 27-year-old been busy, but he's also been productive, hitting .291 with five homers, three steals, and an .825 OPS on the campaign. Raimel Tapia will take over for Verdugo in right field and hit leadoff against Reds right-hander Ben Lively.
