Alex Smalley A Strong Play At Texas Children’s Houston Open
21 hours agoAfter four straight finishes of T21 or better, Alex Smalley posted a scorecard of 74-74 and missed the cut at the Valspar Championship. He now looks to bounce back at the Texas Children's Houston Open, an event he has played in three times, with finishes of T15, T4, and a missed cut in 2024. This week, players will be tested in all areas of their game, with particular emphasis on the short game. Smalley has been especially strong around the greens, ranking fifth on tour with 0.596 strokes gained per round. He is also seventh in total strokes gained (1.541), 10th in strokes gained from tee to green (1.203), and 41st in putting (0.338). With all the tools needed to compete, Smalley is once again a solid play at his $8,200 price tag on DraftKings.

Alex Smalley Aims To Continue Strong Form At Valspar Championship
1 week agoIn his seven starts this season, Alex Smalley has recorded six top-25 finishes, including a T14 at The PLAYERS last week. He looks to continue this momentum at the Valspar Championship, an event he has played in three times -- with a best finish of T27 in 2023 to go along with two missed cuts. Smalley is in the best form of his PGA career, making past results at this event easy to overlook. To succeed at Copperhead, players need to be precise from tee to green and sharp with their short game. Smalley ranks fifth in strokes gained from tee to green (1.473 per round), 64th on approach (0.209), second around the green (0.728), and 39th in putting (0.350). He also excels in other key areas, ranking seventh in bogey avoidance and seventh in scrambling. Given his current form, he is well worth his $9,000 price tag on DraftKings this week.

Alex Smalley Continues To Impress Ahead Of The Cognizant Classic
4 weeks agoGiven his constant appearance on the first page of leaderboards to start the season, it's somewhat surprising that Alex Smalley has yet to finish better than T10. He ranks third on the season in strokes gained tee to green (+1.435) and doesn't fall outside the top 50 in any strokes gained metric. He comes to PGA National with a head of steam to keep himself inside the top 50 in the FedEx Cup race. Missing the cut in last year's event and a T55 in 2022, the 28-year-old comes into this week in a much better place than the two previous appearances. Putting has historically caused him the most issues throughout his career, but it seems to be even more exacerbated on bermuda greens. It's worth noting that the flat stick has been much improved to start this season and if it stays healthy on the trip across the country, expect to see Smalley near the lead again.

He's also ranked in the 83rd percentile for greens in regulation from 200-plus yards, a range that accounted for 43.3% of all approach shots at this course last year. At $8,700 on DraftKings, Smalley is an ideal pick for fantasy managers looking to round out the middle of their lineups.
