Alex Reyes Won't Pitch This Month and Won't Have a Defined Role in 2018
7 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Alex Reyes won't pitch in any Grapefruit League games this spring. Pitching coach Mike Maddux said it is not due to any setbacks, just a precautionary measure to make sure Reyes stays healthy. Reyes will not have a defined role in the 2018 season, instead pitching in a "hybrid" role with the goal being to get him to 90 to 100 innings. That way, he'll be ready for a full season as a starting pitcher in 2019. It's good news for his future, but not great for his fantasy value in 2018. He'll start a game now and then and maybe pick up a save from time to time, but he likely won't have a consistent enough role to be more than a decent source of ratios. He needs to be owned in all keeper and dynasty leagues, but redraft players may want to wait and see how he starts out his season.
