Alex Reyes Won't Be On Opening Day Roster
3 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Alex Reyes (shoulder) will not be on the team's Opening Day roster this year. Reyes is visiting with Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday and will receive an injection to address his right shoulder soreness. The Cardinals will set a schedule on Friday for him to return to throwing. Reyes finally stayed healthy in 2021 and delivered 29 saves for fantasy managers. But the 27-year-old's injury woes are back, so Giovanny Gallegos will likely open as the team's closer in the ninth inning. Genesis Cabrera is also an option for the Red Birds for closing duties alongside Reyes, whenever he gets healthy. Reyes' fantasy shine dims a bit with this news, but once he's back in the mix for saves, he should be rostered in most formats.
