4 years agoWashington Capitals left-winger Alex Ovechkin logged his second multi-point game of the campaign as his team fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday. It was quite a busy afternoon for the nine-time Rocket Richard winner - posting one goal, one power-play assist, six shots, four hits and two blocks in 23:50 of ice time in the contest. Ovechkin is off to yet another strong start to the 2020-2021 season, proving to fantasy owners that he remains a borderline top-five fantasy asset in most formats. With four points (one goal, three assists), a plus-one rating, 11 shots and 10 hits through his first four games, Ovechkin is an auto-start at the left-wing position. Ovechkin scored in the first frame on a snap shot that beat Flyers netminder Ivan Fedotov. This goal extended his goal-scoring streak to an impressive four games. During this four-game stretch, Ovechkin has tallied six points (four goals, two helpers), 3.5 shots on goal per game, three hits per game, and one blocked shot. Ovechkin is also just 16 goals away from surpassing Wayne Gretzky. Over his previous 12 contests, Ovechkin has tallied 10 points (seven goals and three helpers). The Capitals captain is ready for action again five weeks after breaking his left fibula. Following his lengthy absence, Ovechkin might need a bit of time to find his feet, but he looked spectacular early in the campaign. The veteran star has recorded 15 goals and 25 points in 18 outings this season. He needs to light the lamp 27 more times to break Wayne Gretzky's legendary goal-scoring record, and Ovechkin will have 48 games to do it. The Russian superstar is expected to be out for 4-6 weeks, and it looks like his rehab is going well. Tuesday's clash with San Jose will mark the seventh straight game without Ovechkin for the Capitals. They have done fine without him so far, going 4-2-0. The veteran star has looked in great form this season, posting a league-high 15 goals with 10 assists in 18 games. He potted five goals across two games before getting hurt. The injury is a significant setback for Ovechkin's pursuit of breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time goals record this season, and it's obviously bad news for the team as well.
