Alex Colome Much Sharper In Second Outing
4 years agoMinnesota Twins relief pitcher Alex Colome was much better in his second outing of the spring on Sunday against the Rays. Colome pitched a scoreless inning, allowing one hit while striking out two batters. The 32-year-old reliever had a rough outing his first time out but has still displayed the best tool in his arsenal, his cutter, getting three strikeouts with the pitch this spring. Colome has placed 28th and 12th in whiff rate in 2019 and 2020, respectively, with the cutter among hurlers who throw the pitch, so it's a good sign that he's throwing it well. The veteran reliever certainly won't have a sub-1.00 ERA in 2021, though he could record 10-plus saves in the Twins' multiple-closer bullpen.
