Alex Colome Earns First Save Of Season Monday
3 years agoColorado Rockies relief pitcher Alex Colome picked up his first save of the season in Monday's 4-1 win over the Phillies. Colome entered the game to pitch the ninth inning with a three-run lead. He Got Bryce Harper to ground out, Nick Castellanos to fly out, walked Rhys Hoskins, and finally got Kyle Schwarber to ground out. The veteran has been a reliable source of saves in the past for fantasy managers, but he seems to be a clear second in terms of closing options for the Rockies behind Daniel Bard. Bard has converted four of five save opportunities to this point and pitched in two of the Rockies' last three games heading into this one. Colome has now converted one of two save opportunities with a 2.65 ERA and just two strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings pitched. He may be worth a roster spot in deep roto leagues for some occasional saves, but fantasy managers should not expect the kind of save numbers from him that they have seen in the past.
