Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Alex Cobb (wrist) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session on Monday, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Southern California News Group. Cobb spoke afterwards and said that everything went well. However, there is still no timetable for his return. Cobb was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 30 after experiencing wrist inflammation but was pitching surprisingly well before the ailment. He's posted a 3.82 ERA, 25.7 K%, 8.0 BB%, and just three home runs over 77.2 IP. Cobb's still a rehab assignment away from being activated but should be trusted to put up the same numbers once he's back.--Spencer Seguin

Detroit Tigers right-hander Alex Cobb (hip) completed a bullpen session on Tuesday, according to MLive's Evan Woodbery. It's been a long road to recovery for the oft-injured Cobb, who dealt with inflammation in his right hip back in spring training. The 37-year-old veteran began the 2025 season on the injured list as a result and has yet to even begin a minor-league rehab assignment, which means we probably won't see him back in the big leagues until at least June. There remains no timetable for return, and fantasy managers in mixed leagues can leave him to the waiver wire for the time being. There shouldn't be much expectation for Cobb when he's healthy enough to pitch again in the big leagues, as he was limited to three starts in 2024 due to hip, finger and shoulder injuries. It remains to be seen if he'll even have a rotation spot waiting for him when he's past his current hip ailment.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Evan Woodbery of MLive Media Group reports that Detroit Tigers pitcher Alex Cobb (hip) is scheduled to throw live batting practice at Comerica Park early next week. The 37-year-old missed all of spring training due to right hip inflammation. Cobb dealt with injuries last season, limited to just 16.1 innings pitched over August and September. Unfortunately, injuries have already hampered him once again, but it appears he's turning a corner as he'd only thrown bullpen sessions thus far. It's unclear if the former fourth-round pick will be ready to go when he's first eligible or return to the rotation at all when he's healthy, as injuries have been a concern for him. Despite pitching well during his limited 2024 with the Cleveland Guardians -- holding an ERA of 2.76 -- Cobb held an xERA of 5.01.--Alex Ciulla

The Detroit Tigers placed right-hander Alex Cobb (hip) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to March 24) due to right-hip inflammation. The oft-injured 37-year-old veteran didn't pitch at all in spring training due to his hip injury, which means he'll probably miss at least the first month of the regular season. However, the good news is that he resumed throwing last week in camp. It remains to be seen if Cobb will even have a starting-rotation spot waiting for him whenever he's finally cleared to come off the IL. Remember, Cobb was only able to make three regular-season starts for the Cleveland Guardians last year due to hip, finger and shoulder injuries. Durability at this stage of his career is a serious question mark, so Cobb might be better served as a long reliever/swing man for Detroit. In addition to injury concerns, Cobb has very little fantasy upside with a below-average strikeout rate.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Detroit Tigers right-hander Alex Cobb (hip) threw his first bullpen session in camp on Saturday and is scheduled to throw his second bullpen on Wednesday. Cobb was shut down early in spring training after he was diagnosed with right-hip inflammation, but the 37-year-old veteran is ramping back up as he attempts to rejoin the team's starting rotation. Opening Day is next Thursday in L.A. against the World Series-champion Los Angeles Dodgers, though, so Cobb will open the regular season on the injured list and isn't expected to make his 2025 debut until late April or early May. While Cobb will be given a rotation spot in Detroit when he's ready, he's not much of a fantasy asset and has only made 30 starts in a season once. He made just three starts in 2024 due to hip, finger and shoulder injuries and just hasn't been very durable.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
