Alex Cobb Strikes Out Five In Latest Rehab Start
4 months agoCleveland Guardians right-hander Alex Cobb (hip, finger, shoulder) made his latest minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Columbus on Saturday and allowed an earned run on three hits while walking two and striking out five in 4 2/3 innings of work. This was Cobb's seventh rehab start and first with Cleveland since being acquired at last week's trade deadline from the San Francisco Giants. The veteran hurler had offseason hip surgery and then suffered setbacks with his shoulder and finger (blister), which have kept him from making a start in the big leagues in 2024. Cobb threw 69 pitches on Saturday and touched 94.9 mph with his fastball, so he's definitely on the cusp of joining the Guards' rotation. He doesn't have much strikeout upside, but Cobb could be a useful deep-league fantasy streamer for Cleveland. His debut could come this weekend against the Toronto Blue Jays.
