Alejandro Rosario Needs Elbow Surgery, Done For The Year
2 mins agoTexas Rangers pitching prospect Alejandro Rosario (elbow) will have season-ending elbow surgery, according to general manager Chris Young. Young said Rosario's injury was an acute ailment that he felt after throwing a bullpen session in camp. The 23-year-old right-hander is ranked as the No. 50 overall prospect in baseball, per MLB Pipeline, but he'll have to wait to continue his development until 2026. The former fifth-round pick in 2023 out of the University of Miami really impressed last year at Single-A Down East and High-A Hickory, going a combined 4-5 with a 2.24 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 129 strikeouts and 13 walks in 88 1/3 innings pitched over 18 appearances (17 starts). The 6-foot-1, 182-pounder primarily relies on a upper- to mid-90s fastball and splitter while working on a slider as his third offering. Rosario has the upside of a front-line starter in the big leagues.
