Alec Pierce Looking To Expand Route Tree
1 year agoIndianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce has reportedly looked good during training camp after an up-and-down rookie season. The 23-year-old wideout caught 41 passes for 593 yards and two touchdowns in his debut campaign. According to James Boyd of The Athletic, he's looking to expand his route tree. "(Pierce) has caught a few mid to deep crossing routes (during camp) that have been a nice change of pace from just throwing it deep and having him go get it," Boyd wrote. "He still has that ability, but you can see he's trying to expand his route tree." The Colts wide receiver group has a true No. 1 receiver in Michael Pittman Jr., but Pierce will compete with Josh Downs and Isaiah McKenzie to capture the No. 2 wideout role. However, his upside could be limited by rookie growing pains from quarterback Anthony Richardson.
