5 years agoDefenseman Alec Martinez was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a 2020 second-round draft pick and a 2021 second-round selection on Wednesday. The 32-year-old, who won two Stanley Cups with the Kings, has recorded eight points (one goal, seven assists), 59 shots, 32 hits and 85 blocks in 41 contests in 2019-2020. Known more for his play in his own end, the Michigan's native's offensive production has slipped as he's aged, but could see his numbers improve across the board on a more offensively potent Vegas team. Just 1% owned in Yahoo! leagues, Martinez could be nice speculative add for the short-term.--Chase Davis - RotoBaller

3 months agoAccording to Charlie Roumeliotis of WGN Radio, Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Alec Martinez (neck) is listed as day-to-day ahead of the Winter Classic. The veteran defenseman has been on the injured reserve since December 13, but seeing him listed as day-to-day could suggest he is nearing a return. Martinez has already missed the required ten games, so he could be on the verge of a return once he is officially activated off injured reserve. Through 15 games this season, Martinez has tallied one goal and three helpers with four hits and an impressive 38 blocked shots. When he does return, Nolan Allan could leave the starting lineup. Fantasy managers in category leagues that score blocked shots should keep an eye on Martinez's return as he could be worth adding to boost your team in that statistic. --Andy Smith - RotoBaller

3 months agoChicago Blackhawks defenseman Alec Martinez (neck) has been placed on Injured Reserve, retroactive to Dec. 7. He has missed two games due to a neck injury. Martinez's health has been an issue all season for the Blackhawks, as the veteran defenseman has been limited to 15 appearances. He has recorded four points (one goal, three assists), 15 shots, and 38 blocks. In a corresponding move, the Blackhawks recalled Frank Nazar from the AHL. The 20-year-old forward is getting rewarded for showing off hot form. Nazard is among the AHL's top scorers with 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) in 21 games. He practiced on the second line Friday.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

4 months agoChicago Blackhawks defenseman Alec Martinez (groin) has been labeled as a game-time decision for Thursday's matchup against Seattle. He has missed a month of action with a groin injury. However, it appears as though Martinez will be ready to return on Thursday, as the team has activated him from Injured Reserve. Before suffering the injury, Martinez recorded one assist, four shots, and 15 blocks in four games at the start of the season. He should see a good amount of minutes as Seth Jones' companion on the first defensive pairing, but Martinez doesn't produce much offense, limiting his fantasy appeal.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

5 months agoChicago Blackhawks defenseman Alec Martinez (groin) will miss Thursday's game against San Jose and has been placed on Injured Reserve. The veteran rearguard faces a spell on the sidelines due to a groin strain. Martinez, who joined the Blackhawks on a one-year deal in free agency in the summer, has recorded one assist with four shots and 15 blocks through the first four games of the season. He's been a core member of the backline, averaging over 21 minutes a night. Chicago has called up Isaak Phillips from the minors to add defensive depth, while Nolan Allan is expected to replace Martinez in the lineup on Thursday. This will be his second NHL appearance. Allen went scoreless in 10:26 of ice time in his debut against Seattle on Oct. 8.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
