1 year agoAtlanta Braves pitcher AJ Smith-Shawver has been optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. Left-hander reliever A.J. Minter has been activated from the injured list, so Smith-Shawver was the odd man out. Honestly, there isn't a spot for Smith-Shawver in the starting rotation with Max Fried likely returning soon. The 20-year-old allowed three runs over five innings during Sunday's spot start. He holds a 4.57 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 18/10 K/BB across five appearances in the big leagues. Possibly, Smith-Shawver returns again this season, but the team might wait until next season to give him an extended look.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller
