Aidan O'Connell Struggles In First Career Start
1 year agoLas Vegas Raiders rookie quarterback Aidan O'Connell completed 24 passes on 39 attempts (61.5%) for 238 yards in the Week 4 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The rookie quarterback showed flashes of potential but ultimately struggled to find consistency in the passing game. O'Connell turned the ball over three times, fumbling twice and throwing a red zone interception on the Raiders' last drive of the game. Despite his struggles, the fourth-round rookie scored his first career touchdown on the ground and moved the ball well towards the end of the game, funneling targets to Davante Adams. O'Connell started in place of Jimmy Garoppolo and will likely relinquish the starting job once Garoppolo clears the concussion protocol. Fantasy managers and Raiders fans should be encouraged by O'Connell's willingness to throw the long ball, but he probably will not start any more games as long as Garoppolo is healthy. The Raiders have a Week 5 matchup with the Green Bay Packers, who have not allowed a big game for a quarterback this season. Fantasy managers do not need to roster O'Connell, but he may find some relevance in the future.
