Adrian Martinez Making MLB Debut In Game 2 Tuesday
3 years agoOakland Athletics right-hander Adrian Martinez will make his major league debut in Game 2 on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers. Martinez is being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas to serve as the team's 27th man for the doubleheader. The 25-year-old was acquired from the San Diego Padres in the trade that sent lefty Sean Manaea to the Friars. He hasn't been good in his five starts for Vegas this year, allowing 16 earned runs on 22 hits (four home runs) while walking nine and striking out 25 in 19 1/3 innings pitched. In six minor league seasons, Martinez has a 4.47 ERA and 1.39 WHIP while striking out 9.3 hitters per nine innings. He has some swing-and-miss stuff, but his control is far too shaky for fantasy managers to consider using him as a spot-starter in his big-league debut.
