4 years agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Adrian Houser didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 11-6 win over the Reds, giving up four runs on four hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out only one in the contest. The right-hander was removed from the game after 71 pitches (41 strikes) with the Brewers in a 4-1 deficit, but the team's bats came to life after Houser hit the pine. He continues to battle his control, walking multiple batters in five straight starts and nine of his last 11 while posting a 4.33 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, and 41:30 K: BB through 54 innings over that stretch.--James Stokke

11 months agoNew York Mets right-hander Adrian Houser warmed up in the ninth inning in Tuesday's loss to the Philadelphia Phillies when Sean Reid-Foley got hit. As a result, Houser will not start in Philadelphia on Wednesday against the Phillies. The Mets currently don't have a starting pitcher listed for Wednesday's contest. The 31-year-old Houser has made six starts for the Mets this year but was recently demoted to a relief role out of the bullpen and currently carries a rough 7.63 ERA (5.29 FIP) and 1.83 WHIP with 22 walks and 16 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings. Houser is going to need to display better command to have a shot at returning to New York's starting rotation and sticking around beyond just an emergency spot start. The Mets will likely roll with a bullpen game against Philly on Wednesday now.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 year agoNew York Mets right-hander Adrian Houser has been familiarizing himself with a tinkered grip on his changeup while making mechanical tweaks to his slider in spring training. His second Grapefruit League start on Sunday against the Astros didn't go so smooth, as he allowed a lot of hard contact in 1 2/3 innings of work. Houser had been unhappy with his slider in his first start and he's been working on a more direct path with his arm to keep his slider from getting loopy. Only five of his 13 sliders on Sunday were thrown for strikes, and he didn't get any whiffs on it either, so it's clear it's still a work in progress. Especially given Kodai Senga's (shoulder) injury, the Mets are hoping the 31-year-old Houser can step up to help solidify the back end of their rotation to begin the 2024 season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 year agoThe New York Mets acquired right-hander Adrian Houser and outfielder Tyrone Taylor from the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday in exchange for a minor-league right-hander Coleman Crow, whom the Mets acquired in the Eduardo Escobar trade, according to a source. The deal clears money for the Brewers, with Houser projected to make $5.6 million in salary arbitration and Taylor $1.7 million. The 30-year-old Houser will probably be in competition for a rotation spot in New York in spring training, especially if the Mets find a way to land Japanese star Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He had a solid 4.12 ERA with 96 strikeouts and 34 walks in 111 1/3 innings covering 21 starts and two relief outings in 2023. Taylor, 29, should open 2024 as outfield depth in Queens. He played in 81 games this past season due to an elbow injury and underwhelmed by hitting .234.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 years agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Adrian Houser (elbow) is set to be activated from the 15-day injured list and start against the Miami Marlins on Thursday. The right-hander has been sidelined since late August due to elbow swelling. Before that, Houser held a 4.58 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and 77/28 K/BB ratio over 19 games (17 starts) with the Brewers this season. Prior to this news, Wade Miley was expected to pitch on Thursday, so it's unclear how the Brewers will shake up their rotation. For now, Houser is scheduled to pitch on Thursday, so fantasy managers can expect him to take the mound for that contest.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller
