1 year agoBaltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer in Grapefruit League action against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. The star catcher now has three homers and eight RBI to go along with a .257 batting average this spring. Rutschman has improved in each year of his young big-league career and is coming off a 20 homer, 80 RBI campaign. In addition to his healthy power numbers, he hit a respectable .277. The 26-year-old is entrenched in the No. 1 spot behind the dish in all formats and the combination of a rare position and top tier lineup work to his advantage when considering him in upcoming drafts.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

6 months agoBaltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the New York Yankees. The O's will give their star catcher a breather after he's started in each of the last five games. The postseason is quickly approaching and the Orioles want to keep Rutschman fresh. That being said, James McCann will start behind the plate and bat ninth against right-hander Marcus Stroman. McCann is hitting .227 with seven homers this season, so fantasy managers can probably find a better streaming option ahead of Wednesday's slate.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

7 months agoThe Baltimore Orioles will have Adley Rutschman as their designed hitter for Tuesday's game at the Boston Red Sox, giving the All-Star catcher a night off behind the plate while James McCann gets the start. Rutschman is hitting .255/.323/.400 with 18 homers, 72 RBI, 62 runs scored, and a stolen base in 132 games. He has struggled over the past month, hitting .195/.269/.256 with a homer, four RBI and four runs scored. Rutschman and the Orioles will face Red Sox hurler Kutter Crawford, against whom Rutschman is 3-for-10 with two homers and three RBI. This is a matchup that daily fantasy players should exploit.--Brandon Williams - RotoBaller

8 months agoBaltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (back) is back behind the plate and is batting fifth on Sunday at Camden Yards against the division-rival Boston Red Sox and right-hander Kutter Crawford. Rutschman was scratched from Friday's series opener on Friday and also sat out of Saturday's contest, but he's feeling good enough to give it a go in the series finale. The 26-year-old switch-hitting All-Star catcher needs to be returned to starting lineups in all fantasy formats. He's one of the best hitting players at the weak catcher position and has gone 12-for-42 (.286) with three doubles, a triple and eight RBI in 13 games played in the month of August. And in eight career at-bats against Crawford, Rutschman is hitting .250 with an .875 OPS, one home run and two RBI.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

8 months agoBaltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (back) was scratched from Friday's lineup at Camden Yards against the division-rival Boston Red Sox due to lower-back discomfort, the team announced. With Rutschman a little beat up, catcher James McCann made the start behind the plate and is hitting in the nine-hole against Red Sox left-hander Brennan Bernardino. For now, fantasy managers will want to consider Rutschman as day-to-day and check back on Saturday to see if he's back in action. Losing the 26-year-old switch-hitting, All-Star catcher for any length of time would be a big blow to the Orioles and fantasy managers alike. Rutschman has continued to swing a hot bat in August, going 12-for-40 (.300) with three doubles, a triple and eight RBI in 12 games played. Check back later for a potential update on the severity of his back injury.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
