Adeiny Hechavarria, Kevin Kiermaier Both Look Good Saturday
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria (hamstring) and outfielder Kevin Kiermaier (thumb) both had encouraging practices Saturday in their respective drills. Kiermaier was throwing to the bases to test his thumb while Hechavarria tested out his hamstring in fielding grounders. Both look to head out to rehab assignments next week and return in late June. Kiermaier is not an elite player in any fantasy category but he helps in several. He had either tied or set a career-high in home runs in each of his past four seasons. He had stolen 16-to-21 bases the past three seasons. Kiermaier even set a career-best .276 batting average in 2017. Injuries continue to plague him and will cause him to likely suffer a setback in his counting stats for 2018 but he could be a help to fantasy owners in the second-half. Hechavarria is not much of a fantasy option right now, and shortstop prospect Willy Adames looms as a threat in the long term. In fact, rumors suggest Willy Adames may be called up fairly soon.
