Adam Ottavino May Be Losing Control
6 years agoTwo years ago, Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Adam Ottavino was a control freak who posted a 5.00 K/BB ratio while striking out more than 11 batters per nine innings. Last season, he lost his control and posted an incredible 6.58 BB/9, leading to an ERA north of 5.00. After looking like he put those demons to bed early this season, Ottavino may be losing control again. In his last two outings, Ottavino has blown two saves and walked five batters while striking out four. He got lucky on Thursday and vultured a win thanks to a timely home run by DJ LeMahieu, but the walks are concerning. It'll need to happen another time or two before it truly becomes a trend, but it's a worrying couple of data points for now.
