5 years agoKansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (shoulder) is still rehabilitating according to schedule, but there's still no set date on when he's expected to return to game action. It's also not clear if he'll be ready for Opening Day. Mondesi experienced some soreness late this week, and so the team had his surgeon come check on the rehab process on Friday. The surgeon pronounced that Mondesi was doing just fine and on schedule, but manager Mike Matheny is already laying the groundwork for Mondesi to not be ready by the start of the season. If Mondesi isn't ready by Opening Day, it could lead to a temporary roster spot for Erick Mejia, a light-hitting speedster.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller

2 years agoBoston Red Sox shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) has been ramping up baseball activities of late. Mondesi posted a video of himself taking grounders, running, and hitting on Monday ahead of his team's game against the Kansas City Royals. The speedy infielder has not played in a game yet this season after injuring his knee and undergoing ACL surgery. It remains to be seen whether Mondesi makes it back to the field for the 2023 season or not.--Matt T - RotoBaller

2 years agoBoston Red Sox shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) will visit with a doctor in Boston to determine the next step in his rehab from a torn ACL. For weeks now, Mondesi has been doing hitting and fielding drills, but he has yet to play in games or begin a minor-league rehab assignment. If doctors like what they see with the 27-year-old speedster, he could be on the verge of starting a rehab assignment in the minors. The switch-hitting middle infielder has yet to play in 2023 and has played in a total of 109 games the last three seasons with the Kansas City Royals due to injuries. Once considered an elite stolen base target in fantasy, Mondesi needs to prove he can stay on the field before fantasy managers will want him on their rosters again. The good news is he should see plenty of playing time at the 6 in Boston once he's ready to make his season debut.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 years agoThe Boston Red Sox placed shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) on the 60-day injured list on Thursday. Mondesi is still recovering from a torn left ACL suffered last year, and now he won't be able to make his 2023 debut with Boston until at least May. The 27-year-old hasn't been able to stay healthy in his career, but he's worth stashing in deeper mixed leagues for his speed. He should see plenty of playing time at shortstop in his first year in Boston when he's healthy enough to return. Until then, Enrique Hernandez should see most of the playing time at the 6, with Christian Arroyo serving as Boston's primary second baseman.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 years agoBoston Red Sox shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) had a good day at spring training on Wednesday while hitting and taking ground balls. Mondesi is expected to increase his workload in the coming days in camp, but he's still not expected to be ready for Opening Day at the end of March. The 27-year-old could bump Enrique Hernandez back to the outfield when he's fully healthy. Mondesi entered the league with plenty of potential from a speed perspective, but injuries have hurt him recently. He suffered a torn ACL in 2022 and played in only 15 games for the Kansas City Royals. It's also possible that he could form a platoon with Hernandez at short when he's ready, which would limit his fantasy appeal in deeper leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
