Adalberto Mejia Can't Be Trusted Against Blue Jays Monday
6 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Adalberto Mejia is set to make a spot start on Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Savvy daily fantasy players might be looking to get ahead of their competition by seeking out a cheap, under-the-radar option to start on Monday, but while Mejia brings solid stuff (61 strikeouts in 62 1/3 innings in Triple-A in 2018), he carries immense risk as well. Most importantly, Mejia hasn't shown he can consistently pitch at a reliable level in the majors yet. His lone start of 2018 came against the Chicago Cubs in June. The Cubbies made Mejia suffer early and he exited the game with four earned runs in just four innings. He had better success in 2017, but still did not show good run-stopping ability, as evidenced by his 4.50 ERA. While the Blue Jays represent a relatively soft opponent, they are in the midst of a three-game win streak. They've faced Mejia once before, when the pitcher took the loss against them back in September 2017 (three runs in three innings). Mejia is a career 4.74 ERA pitcher who will carry a 1.62 WHIP into Monday's game. DFS players should probably look elsewhere on Monday's slate of games for a dark horse pitcher.
