The Denver Post's Patrick Saunders reports that Colorado Rockies second base prospect
Adael Amador will be called up from Triple-A Albuquerque for Sunday's series finale at Petco Park against the San Diego Padres, according to a source. The corresponding roster move will likely be outfielder
Tyler Freeman (oblique) going on the 10-day injured list after he was scratched from Saturday's lineup after tweaking his oblique in the batting cage. The 22-year-old Amador is considered Colorado's No. 7 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and will hopefully boost what has been a dormant Rockies offense early in 2025. He was hitting .275/.408/.450 with two homers, fur RBI, three steals and nine runs in 49 plate appearances at Triple-A. Amador should see regular playing time at second for the Rockies. Although he hit just .171 in his MLB debut last year, it was in just 10 games. His power/speed upside could play immediately in mixed fantasy leagues.

Colorado Rockies prospects
Adael Amador and
Drew Romo were both optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday. Amador was having a nice spring, going 8-for-27 (.296) with nine RBI, five runs scored, and an 8:5 BB:K. The switch-hitter is Colorado's seventh-ranked prospect and offers a blend of power and speed. Last season at Double-A, he hit 14 home runs and stole 35 bases in 100 games. Romo got off to a cold start this spring, going 2-for-17 (.118) along with a 1:4 BB:K. The Rockies' 11th-ranked prospect will head back to Triple-A, where he hit .297 with 14 home runs last season. Both had a taste of the majors in 2024, albeit with little success, but Amador offers the better fantasy profile of the two and is likelier to get back to the big leagues sooner, maybe even before summer.

Colorado Rockies middle infield prospect
Adael Amador continued his hot hitting by going 1-for-4 with a solo home run on Wednesday for Double-A Hartford. The home run was his second in as many games for the 21-year-old. Amador is the Rockies No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline and is has been scorching hot of late with nine hits over his last 24 at-bats. Amador got a look with the big-league club earlier in the season, but suffered a right oblique injury and eventually returned to Hartford when activated. The Rockies are in a full rebuild, so there stands a chance that Amador will see some time with the big-league club before the season over, but he is more likely to help dynasty managers in the future versus redraft managers in 2024.

Colorado Rockies infield prospect
Adael Amador has had trouble finding consistency since returning to Double-A after his brief major league debut. Since July 1 at Double-A Hartford, the top prospect in Colorado has struggled with a poor .174/.321/.196 line. During this span, he has hit only one extra-base hit and held a disappointing 10:22 BB:K ratio. However, Amador has posted two multi-hit games in his past four games, which could suggest he might be turning the corner. The 21-year-old infielder is considered the 46th-best prospect and could see another opportunity in the major leagues during the second half of the season.
