Aaron Nola Rocked For Five Earned Runs In No-Decision
1 year agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola took a no-decision on Thursday when he allowed five runs on eight hits to go along with seven strikeouts and two walks over six innings in an 8-5 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Nola was facing the Braves for the first time this season and it got ugly right off the bat as Austin Riley took him deep for a two-run shot in the bottom of the first. He then served up another home run, a solo shot to Marcell Ozuna, in the second inning and was then victimized by Riley again for a solo home run in the fifth. The 29-year-old did punch out seven but allowed five earned runs for the second time this season. The ugly outing has his ERA up to 4.59 but he still owns a respectable 1.12 WHIP and 60:15 K/BB ratio across 68 2/3 innings (11 starts). He'll look to get back on track in his next turn against the Mets on the road.
