7 years agoMaking his first start since the All-Star game, Philadelphia Phillies No. 1 starter Aaron Nola wasn’t at his best against the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday night. The rust was visible, as he managed to go just five innings, surrendering three runs. He also allowed five hits and walked two, with five strikeouts along the way. While he wasn’t sharp, Nola’s fantasy owners shouldn’t be worried, as the lack of action across the past 10 days surely played a role in this performance. The Phillies would go on to win this marathon affair in the 16th inning.--RDelgado

6 months agoThe Philadelphia Phillies will turn to right-handed pitcher Aaron Nola for their National League Division Series Game 3 clash with the Mets on Tuesday. He will be opposed by Sean Manaea. This will be the 31-year-old's first appearance of the 2024 postseason. However, he owns a career 5-3 record with a 3.70 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP, and a 24.9% strikeout rate in nine post-season starts. Nola had a nice regular season, compiling a 3.57 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, and a 24.0% strikeout rate in 33 starts and 199 1/3 IP. He had mixed success against the Mets in his two regular-season starts against them, tossing a complete-game shutout with eight strikeouts in his first game and allowing six runs in 4 1/3 IP in his second matchup. This makes him a dubious fantasy start against a Mets offense that has scored the most runs of any team so far in the playoffs.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller

6 months agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola came up clutch in Monday's 6-2 win over the Cubs, sealing the National League East division title. Nola pitched six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. The 31-year-old has been a solid fantasy option overall this season, going 13-8 with a 3.52 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, and an 8.80 K/9 rate in 32 starts and 194 1/3 IP. He has turned in some inconsistent starts throughout the season and his strikeout rate has declined over each of the last four seasons. However, Nola has turned in good numbers overall in a rebound season. He is currently in line to start the final game of the season at the Nationals, but fantasy managers should keep an eye out for news as the game gets closer. They should ensure that Nola will still make the start, given that the Phillies have now won their division.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller

7 months agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola improved to 12-6 in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Astros. Nola turned in another great start, pitching seven innings with four hits, one walk, and six strikeouts. The 31-year-old has followed his recent strong-season/down-season trend, compiling a 3.30 ERA, an 8.28 K/9 rate, and a 2.27 BB/9 rate in 27 starts (17 quality starts) and 166 1/3 IP this season. He will face a tougher matchup against the division-rival Braves in his next start, but fantasy managers should feel confident in starting him in any matchup down the stretch based on his season performance.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller

9 months agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola was solid again on Thursday, throwing six innings of one-run ball and earning the win in a 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Nola allowed four hits and two walks while punching out nine. His knuckle-curve was especially impressive in this one, generating 10 whiffs on 29 pitches. The 31-year-old hasn't been dominant lately, but he has done enough to give his team a good chance to win. While he is prone to the occasional blow-up, his overall numbers remain borderline elite. He has an 11-4 record with a 3.38 ERA,1.03 WHIP, and 116 K in 119 ⅔ IP, giving fantasy managers exactly what they would hope for from Nola.--Matt Garon - RotoBaller
