Aaron Judge Unwilling To Change Approach At The Plate
4 years agoNew York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge is unwilling to swing at low pitches that often get called for strikes against him. Judge said he's thought about swinging at those pitches, but doing so would take him out of his approach. The slugger ultimately chalked it up to an umpiring issue, saying he'd rather focus on being disciplined at the plate and making sure his mechanics are sound, mainly getting the barrel of the bat on the ball. 2020 was a small sample size for Judge, but his barrel rate tied for the lowest of his career after posting rates in the top-2 percent of the league for three straight years. Given his focus on swing mechanics and his past career prowess, a rebound in barrels is likely, if his health holds up. His health makes him perhaps the best example of boom-or-bust in fantasy baseball, though the upside would seem to outweigh the risk.
