5 years agoCleveland Indians pitcher Aaron Civale (1-1) allowed three earned runs on five hits and no walks while striking out nine across six innings to take the loss Sunday against the Twins. Civale allowed a run in each of the first three innings before settling in to retire nine straight to end his outing. After striking out 46 batters in 57 2/3 frames during his major-league experience in 2019, Civale has racked up 15 strikeouts in 12 innings of work through two starts this season. He's also shown the ability to work deep into contests, reaching 100 pitches and completing six innings in each of his two outings. His strikeout ability and the fact that he seems almost fully stretched out bodes well for his fantasy chances going forward. Civale is projected to take the mound for this third start of the campaign Friday at the White Sox.--James Stokke

17 hours agoDespite landing on the injured list on Monday, Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Aaron Civale (hamstring) was able to play catch on Tuesday after his MRI exam revealed only a mild strain of his hamstring. While nothing is set in stone just yet, this news means that Civale should have a chance to return from the IL when he's eligible on Tuesday, April 15. If at all possible, the Brewers would love to have him back in their injury-depleted starting rotation, too. Civale made it only three innings in his first start of 2025 in the Bronx against the New York Yankees on March 30, allowing five earned runs on four hits (three homers allowed) while walking one and striking out two. If the 29-year-old hurler continues to improve quickly, he could even forego a minor-league rehab assignment. Injury aside, Civale has limited fantasy upside due to lack of strikeout stuff.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 days agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Aaron Civale (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained hamstring. The 29-year-old was pulled from Sunday's start after three innings of work. Fantasy managers should monitor his status, but should expect him to be sidelined for most of April. Before exiting Sunday's game, Civale allowed four hits and five earned runs across three innings of work. With Civale sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Elvin Rodriguez to remain in the starting rotation going forward. In addition, the Brewers may have to promote a starting pitcher from Triple-A or begin to stretch out their bullpen arms. Civale joins a long list of injuries to Milwaukee's arms, such as Tobias Myers (oblique) and Aaron Ashby (oblique). This could also open the door for top pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski to join the MLB roster.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

7 months agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Aaron Civale was brilliant Thursday, shutting down the San Francisco Giants in a 6-0 victory. Civale allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out seven in this one. Although the results in this one were good, Civale has been mediocre for most of the season, including his time with both Tampa and Milwaukee. He is certainly capable of a dominant start like this one, but he is hard to trust in fantasy given his 4.59 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Consider him a streaming option against easy matchups.--Matt Garon - RotoBaller

8 months agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Aaron Civale notched his first win since being traded to the Brewers in Friday's 8-3 victory over the Reds. It was a quality start as well after the 29-year-old lasted six-and-two-thirds innings, yielding two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five. After a solid season last year for the Guardians, the 2024 campaign has been rough on the righty, both in Tampa and in Milwaukee. The former third-round draft pick owns a 5.02 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 14.3% K-BB%, and has allowed 24 home runs (1.75 HR/9) over 23 starts. While his next start will be at home, it won't be easy as he draws the Dodgers next Thursday.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller
