Aaron Altherr Still In Prime Position For Starting Job
7 years agoWith Rhys Hoskins and Odubel Herrera appearing safe as starters in the Philadelphia Phillies outfield, the final spot was always going to come down to Nick Williams and Aaron Altherr. The latter has seen action in nine Spring Training games thus far, hitting .261 with three walks, three RBI, a home run and even a stolen base. The younger Williams hasn’t matched Altherr’s performance at the plate, which could mean the German native is pulling away in the race. After disappointing in 2016, Altherr flashed signs of his potential last season, with a hamstring strain in August hurting his momentum. At the time, he was hitting .285, but struggled after his return, finishing with a .272 average.
