A.J. Puk On IL With Shoulder Strain
4 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher A.J. Puk (shoulder) was placed on the Injured List with a shoulder strain and will see a specialist in Los Angeles for a second opinion. The extent of the injury is unknown, but manager Bob Melvin said that the fact they need to put Puk on the IL indicates a level of concern. The left-hander is one of the A's top prospects, but only managed to throw 36 2/3 innings last season after missing all of 2018 due to Tommy John surgery. Puk was dealing with this injury back in March, but appeared to be on track to join the rotation and was even announced as the fifth starter last week. Daniel Mengden will join the rotation but fantasy managers should aim higher when looking for a replacement on waivers.
