A.J. Puk Nearing Return To Mound, Set For Relief Role
4 years agoOakland Athletics left-handed pitcher A.J. Puk has been throwing at 75 feet and is on the precipice of getting back on the mound. Manager Bob Melvin would not commit to whether or not Puk, who is dealing with a shoulder ailment, would return in 2020, but said that if he did get back, it would be as a reliever. Puk, who was ranked as the No. 66 prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline’s newest ranking, was in contention to begin the year among the starting staff before getting injured. Much like how fellow prospect Jesus Luzardo joined the team last season in a relief role, Puk could do the same and would become an intriguing holds own in deep leagues. For now, keepers owners can monitor his progress and look toward having him start games in 2021.
