1 year agoSan Diego Padres president of baseball operations and general manager A.J. Preller and skipper Bob Melvin will both return to the club next season, as per Preller in Wednesday afternoon's end-of-season media availability. Both men were seemingly on the hot seat following a disappointing season in which the Padres went 82-80 and finished in third place in the NL West despite a star-studded roster that added outfielder Juan Soto and shortstop Xander Bogaerts since the 2022 trade deadline. Preller has been with the club since August of 2014 while 2023 was Melvin's second season with the Padres after managing the Oakland A's from 2011-2021. Expectations will remain high for the Friars again in 2024.--Brenton Kemp
