A.J. Cole Loads Bases With No Outs, Then Escapes
6 years agoIn the 11th inning of Tuesday night’s game at Marlins Park, the New York Yankees sent out reliever A.J. Cole. Immediately, the decision appeared to backfire as he walked the opening batter en route to loading the bases with nobody out. The 26-year-old was in desperate need of a positive outing after having surrendered at least one run in each of his last three outings and five of his last six. After loading the bases, however, Cole induced a groundout, struck out a batter and escaped the mega-jam with a popup to third base. It was a monumental escape for Cole in a much-needed positive performance. The game remained tied and the Yankees would win in the following inning, resulting in a victory for Cole.
