9 months agoOn Saturday evening, A.J. Allmendinger qualified 30th for the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Sunday's race will be the second out of an estimated 12-15 Cup starts for Allmendinger in 2024. In his only other start this season, which came in the Daytona 500, he led nine laps and ended the day with an impressive sixth-place finish. Although he is primarily recognized as a road course specialist, the Kaulig Racing standout has had success at Bristol, mainly at the Xfinity level. In his three Xfinity starts at "The Last Great Colosseum," the 42-year-old has a win (2021), three top-10 finishes, and an average increase of +8 in place differential.
