1 year agoA.J. Allmendinger will be absent from practice and qualifying at Richmond Raceway this weekend. Derek Kraus will be filling in behind the wheel of the No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet for those two sessions. Instead getting prepared for Sunday's Cup race at Richmond, Allmendinger will instead be focusing on and racing in the Xfinity Series event at Road America. For many fans and media members, this is a very questionable move for Allmendinger, as he is in the thick of the Playoffs hunt, currently just 17 points behind the cutoff line and in 17th-place in the points standings. When asked about it, Allmendinger stated, "Some people won't understand it, but at the end of the day, we don't care." The motto at Kaulig Racing has always been "Trophy Hunting," and that seems to be exactly what they're doing this weekend. Allmendinger is one of the favorites to win at Road America, while he finished in 27th-place in the first Richmond race this season.--Jordan McAbee
