A.J. Allmendinger Lacks Speed In Phoenix Despite Consistency
1 year agoNASCAR drivers are usually past their prime after age forty, but A.J. Allmendinger is proving to be an arguable exception to this general rule as he has generally had his most consistent NASCAR seasons in recent years. In the races that he and teammate Justin Haley have both finished, Allmendinger has a 19-9 record against Haley, which definitely exceeded expectations, Haley is still very young in his mid-20's. Having said that, Allmendinger has rarely ever had speed at Phoenix except during his RPM years in 2010 and 2011, when he had three front row starts, 17 laps led, and both top ten finishes. In every race since, he has finished middle of the pack and failed to contend. That trend will probably continue Sunday.
