49ers Release Josh Johnson
4 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers released quarterback Josh Johnson on Tuesday, according to a source. It is the 15th time that Johnson has been released in his career, including five times by the 49ers. He has played for 13 NFL teams and the UFL and AAF and is 35 years old. Johnson signed with San Francisco's practice squad in November of last year and was retained as a free agent. The Niners took Trey Lance with the third overall pick of this year's draft, making Johnson expendable. The team also has Jimmy Garoppolo, Nick Mullens, Josh Rosen and Nate Sudfeld at the position. Johnson last played in the NFL in 2018 with the Washington Football Team, throwing for 590 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions in four games (three starts). He's made just eight starts in his career.
