49ers Defense Facing Rookie-Led Cardinals
6 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers defense enters Week 5 sixth-worst in points allowed (29.5 per game) and tied for second-to-last in turnovers (three). The squad draws rookie quarterback Josh Rosen and the Arizona Cardinals, the league’s worst offense by a wide margin. Rosen has instilled some life into the Cardinals and through one-plus games, thrown a touchdown and interception while absorbing three sacks (72.7 QB Rating). Running back David Johnson also had his best game last Sunday with Rosen at the helm. The risk is the Cardinals continue ascending but the Niners are an interesting streaming option or replacement during Week 5 byes. If they can improve on their league-worst tackling and generate pressure, the Niners could force Rosen into unforced rookie errors. If there’s an opportunity to capitalize on the San Francisco defense, Week 5 is the ideal scenario.
