BALLER MOVE: Add in All Saves Leagues
OWNED IN: 15% of Fleaflicker Leagues
ANALYSIS: Saves are one of the most fickle categories in fantasy baseball, and Saturday afternoon showed us why. After being called on to try and shut the door on the Nationals during yesterday's game, Hector Rondon was pulled after facing only batter. He walked Anthony Rendon, so Joe Maddon decided to pull the plug and let Pedro Strop finish the game. It's hard to argue with Maddon because he won the game, but what does this mean for Strop, and in turn Rondon's fantasy value?
Rondon definitely loses some value with his job security in question, and the Baller move here would be to grab Pedro Strop off the waiver wire if you have the roster space. Just to muddle things even more, Maddon rolled with Jason Motte on Sunday to close the game. Go figure. Then there's of course the even more maddening (or "Maddoning" in this case) possibility of a closer by committee. This would handicap the value of all players, and that's not good for anyone.
Lots of questions, and not many firm answers yet, but Strop seems like the most realistic option going forward if Rondon is out, as he's been operating as the setup man all year and has closer stuff. If you're looking to grab some saves off the waiver wire, feel free to pickup Strop and see how this situation plays out over the next few days.
