Is Paul DeJong a top fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for Week 14 (2024)? Fantasy baseball managers should consider adding DeJong as a waiver wire free agent in deeper leagues.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 16% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Chicago White Sox shortstop Paul DeJong has rebounded nicely in the 2024 season. His bat struggled mightily in the 2022 and 2023 seasons as he spent time in the minors with the Cardinals in 2022 before spending the 2023 season with the Cards, Blue Jays, and Giants, combining for a .603 OPS in the process.
The veteran went on to ink a one-year pact with the lowly White Sox this past offseason and has hit .235 with 14 homers and a .735 OPS across his first 74 games on the South Side. However, his home run power is about all he is bringing to the table from a fantasy perspective as he has not only walked in just 3.4% of his 262 plate appearances but has also struck out in a hefty 32.1% of his trips to the plate. Both figures continue a career-long trend as DeJong has long struggled in the OBP department.

Nonetheless, a middle infielder with pop remains relevant in deeper leagues. If you can stomach the punchouts and lack of on-base skills, DeJong's power is still enough to keep him fantasy-relevant, even if Chicago's disastrous offense limits his counting stats.
